The Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) is a new temporary work visa that is replacing a number of existing work visas including the Essential Skills Work Visa and Work to Residence Visa. The visa is being introduced from the 4th July 2022 and requires that all employers wishing to employ migrants on AEWV’s be accredited under the new policy.
You cannot apply for an Accredited Employer Work Visa unless your potential employer is accredited and they have an approved job check. When applying for an AEWV you will need to demonstrate that you are in good health and of good character. In addition, you will also need to show that you have the necessary skills, experience and qualifications required to fill the role.
Your employment offer must be for a genuine and sustainable position and pay at least the median wage. Your employer must provide you with a copy of your job description and employment contract that clearly shows the pay, location and working conditions for the job. Your employment agreement must comply with New Zealand employments laws and best business practices. Your employer must pay all fees and costs involved in the recruitment process including the job check.
If you employer is hiring you under the Accredited Employer Work Visa category they must comply with NZ employment law and standards at all times. They also need to ensure you are well settled and that you are able to report any breaches of your rights. Migrant workers have the same rights as New Zealand workers.
Under the AEWV category, your employer must provide you with support for your stay in NZ while doing your job. That means they need to provide you with relevant settlement information and direct you to get information from government websites. They must also allow you time during your paid working hours to complete online modules and employment rights in New Zealand.
Immigration New Zealand will be introducing a pathway to residence under the Accredited Employer Work Visa category. To qualify you will need to have held an AEWV for at least two years and be paid at least twice the median wage.
